WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE SHOULD A PROPERTY NOT COMPLY WITH CURRENT ELECTRICAL INSPECTIONS REGULATIONS?

A report with a quotation will be forwarded to the Seller and Transferring Attorney. Should our quotation be accepted in writing we will arrange to effect the electrical repairs and thereafter issue the Certificate of Compliance. PLEASE NOTE – The inspection fee remains payable irrespective if our quotation is accepted or not. Should the property comply with current regulation and no repairs necessary – the Certificate of Compliance will be issued.

WHO MAY ISSUE A VALID CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE

ONLY a Registered Electrical Contractor.

HOW CAN AN ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR’S REGISTRATION BE VERIFIED?

Every Electrical Contractor must be registered with the Department of Labour – Occupational Health and Safety Act no 85 of 1993 in terms of Regulation 6(2) of the Electrical Installations Regulations, 2009.

Should the contractor be in possession of a Voluntary ECB registration number a search can be done on the ECBSA website under “Search Contractor” for verification if the electrical contractor is registered with the Department of Labour.

IS A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE VALID IF ISSUED BY AN ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR NOT REGISTERED?

The Department of Labour will deem such a certificate Invalid.

WHICH RULES AND REGULATIONS ARE APPLIED WHEN CONDUCTING AN ELECTRICAL INSPECTION?

The SANS 10142/1 – SABS 0142-1 is the Code of Practice for the wiring of Electrical Installations and is done in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act no 85 of 1993.

FOR WHAT PERIOD IS AN ELECTRICAL COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATE VALID?

Certificates issued after 1 May 2009 are valid for 2 Years. NOTE : Should any changes to the Electrical Installation have been made after the certificate has been issued a new certificate will be required or a certificate for those changes to be attached to the original certificate.
